A few pics from this past weekends events.

First is Madison's bouquet from Saturday. Her bouquet consisted of deep purple and white callas, purple lisianthus, dendro orchids, iris, cybidium orchids, scabiosa pods and curly willow.

Second is Tonie's bouquet from Friday. Her circus chic bouquet was made up of double tulips, blue hydrangea, acacia, billy balls, red ranuculus, fever few and stars of bethlahem.

unfortunately there wont be any pro photos from either of these weddings so i figured I would share what photos I was able to capture before pick up. Camera phones just dont do much justice.

All white bouquets have become quite popular lately. I've had at least five in the past two months. But I can totally see the appeal. Nothing says sophistication quite an airy white bouquet.

Lora was delight to work with. Her wedding was our last of 2011 and turned out to be a great one. Lora and I never actually met but corresponded through email. She decided to use our services only a week before her wedding date. EEK! Luckily, Lora was super sweet and gave me free rain to do as I wished within her palate.

Friday we were asked by Utah Bride Blog to provide some insight into who we are. In case you missed it, here it is:

Flower Friday’s are among the favorite’s of many of our readers and why wouldn’t they be? Flowers are simply lovely in general creating a great core for a post every week! You may have already noticed our fantastic 5 preferred florist of 2012 {and if you have not please go check them out in our vendor listing section}. I wanted to take the time this year to introduce you to them more thoroughly with a fun little question answer format. Lately we have published a lot of works created by the talented Amanda @Branches Floral so I thought we would start with her!

Meet Amanda … and one of her lovely bouquets!!! Shot by Rebekah Westover

What brought you into a floral design career? I’ve always had a passion for flowers. When I was a child, you could likely find me in the garden with my grandpa, weeding, pruning and planting. Watching the fruits of our labor grow, was always satisfying and I enjoyed the feelings of happiness the blooms emulated. So naturally after planning my own nuptials, with the help of my talented florist Audrey of Studio Stems, I knew that wedding floral design was something that I wanted to be a part of. I started with my sister-in-laws wedding and from there, my hobby quickly grew into a full time career. I am obsessed with what I do and so thankful that I listened to my instincts when they told me to jump right in.

What inspires you and where do you find inspiration when it’s lacking? Things all around me constantly inspire me. Some of my greatest inspiration comes from color. I enjoy putting together unique palates that inspire new feelings, which in turn inspire ideas. When lacking inspiration, I find myself looking to nature and landscapes to stimulate creativity.

You might remember this loveliness from UBB’s very own fall inspiration shoot, photographed by Gideon Photography.

What do you love most about wedding floral design? The creative freedom allotted to me by my clients.

If you could tell bride’s one piece of advise in regards to wedding florals what would it be?Do your homework and educate yourself on a realistic budget. Many brides come to me not having a clue as to what flowers cost. This is understandable to some extent. But just like buying a car, you do extensive research on your options. You find out which models suit you, their dependability and how much they are going to affect your bottom line. I recommend you also do this with your wedding florist. Researching whose work fits you best, by digging deeper into their policies and procedures, can help give you the guidance needed to make an informed decision that’s best for you. Checking florists website for an investment page, is also a great place to help you gain valuable knowledge into standard pricing and fees.

Tell us a little about yourself … I’m a self-taught designer who is enthralled in what she does. I’ve been married to my soul mate for 4 1/2 years and have two dogs, that I call children, named Zeus and Buster. In my spare time you can find me refinishing furniture or at the lake.

What would you call your own floral style and why? I can’t exactly pin point my exact style. I am constantly evolving and perfecting my technique. I would however say that I am partial to feminine styles with lush blossoms that are often sweetly scented. Various textures and a strong sense of color usually accompany my designs.

Amanda is actually well known for her amazing inspiration design shoots that have received publication credits in both web and print. This one came from her circus inspired shoot and was shot by Opie Foto .

What is your favorite up and coming trend? I am totally loving the ombre trend right now. I love the gradual change in shades from light to dark. A little tricky to pull off but when executed correctly, is absolutely stunning!

Sam and Derek's Wedding

Sam and Derek's wedding was in the misdt of a freezing October day. Snow fell by the inches that day but Sam didnt let that get her down. She still adorned a vibrant smile!

The snow made for such beautiful wedding photos!

The sign in piece was made of various tall cylinders filled with water and added candles for warmth. Tall tapered candlesticks with glass holders reflected an abundance of light. We then accented with perfectly placed blooms.

Their wedding reception was held at Wolf Creek up Ogden canyonm. This place is amazing. Large windows lead to views of spanding mountains. It looked so magical with the snow blanketing the mountains and the warmth of the roaring fireplaces.

The reception tables held two different kinds of cenerpieces. The first was a tall footed vase adorned with blooms like spray roses, garden roses, gold seeded eucalyptus, dusty miller, lisianthus and the most beautiful cafe dahlias. The other tables held two mercury vases with the same florals.

Sam's Bridals

Can you guess what time of year this is? Well- these first few pictures were taken in early fall. What a glorious day huh!?

These beautiful bridals were taken by one of my favorite photographers Heather with Heather Nan Photography. I love everything about these. The light, the location and the bride are all stunning!

If you are a bride contemplating an all white bouquet, but are not sure if you can pull if off or have reservations as to whether or not it will be seen against your dress- Here is a perfect example of how it can be done.

Sam's bridal bouquet was constructed of various shades of white and ivory roses. Sahara, white majolica and polo, just to name a few. Using various shades with subtle hints of peaches or pinks, still lends to soft muted feel but stands out against your white or ivory dress.

It's a brand new year and things here at Branches are off to an amazing start.

First we want to share with you our debut on Good Things Utah. OK well maybe not us in person but one of our bouquets.

We were asked by an amazing local vendor, Utah Event by Design, to provide a bouquet for a spot on GTU. Jen Cylde, a local stylist was sharing her thoughts on new trends in the wedding industry and our bouquet was needed to showcase these such trends.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I leave you with a few pictures of my humble abode, all dolled up for the season. Branches is wrapping up our last wedding of the season and we are THRILLED to announce some very exciting things for 2012.

Just like the classic Christmas song Silver and Gold by Burl Ives, my Christmas tree was also adorned with shades of silver and gold. However, I went with a very unique approach by adding touches of woodland charm. I adorned the evergreen with things like giant snow balls, gold ferns, white owls, birds nests, birds cages, gold evergreen garland and silver dusted foliage. I finished it all off with fresh florals like gold curly willow, baby's breath and birch shavings.

A simple garland for my staircase was jazzed up with the use of real Christmas greens airbrushed a beautiful gold. A few Christmas picks were added for a more plush look and to tie in with the tree, I added more baby's breath and a few pine cones.

Yes, I have two Christmas trees! One real and one fake. What can I say, I love Christmas!
My family room tree was a more simple approach. Adorned with non-traditional colors like brown, burnt orange and cool blue, this scheme still exudes the warmth of Christmas and all its charm.

This was my Christmas project this year. Wooden trees painted to match my decor. Aren't they darling!?

Lastly is my 1/3 bath. Funny thing is this is the only room in my home with any color that resembles traditional Christmas. The bathroom colors are normally a bright turquoise green-blue and cherry red which works great for a few added touches of red Christmas bulbs and a mini Santa.

Theme: Winter Romance

Color Scheme: Warm tones of Amber, Sapphire, Emerald, Gold and Winter White

Decor: Details reminiscent of an upscale lodge with accents of natural charm

The tablescape consisted of various vessels that held varieties such as privet berries, baby's breath, large football mums, dusty miller, garden roses and magnolia leaves. We also added touches of natural elements like acorn balls and glass owls for visual interest and texture. Oh... and don't forget candlelight. Lots and Lots of candlelight.

What girl wouldnt want two dresses? Our second dress was a beautiful full length gown that was paired with the perfect shade of emerald cardigan so the bride may keep warm in the crisp winter air.

Invitations were done by none other than Mollie of Polka Dots and Daisies. She created this folded pocket invite adorned with a cozy knit band-wrap and finished with wooden buttons. These are the details that make an event. The small things that your guest will notice.

Look at this flower! I LOVE this simple yet show-stopping cake.

Its raining its pooring.......

Why such a dramatic heading? Well.... the day of Melissa's wedding was a down-right gloomy weather day. Torrential rain poor almost washed me away while setting up over 36 centerpieces. They had to be hauled from my car to the long long long walkway to the backyard where the tables sat, tucked under a beautiful white tent. All in a days work right? :O)

These beautiful images of Melissa's wedding were provided by the talented Mikki Platt of Mikki Platt Photography.

Melissa wanted a Martha's Vineyard feel for her September nuptials, so we started with a color palate of creams, antique green, lavender and champagne.

For the centerpieces each table was adorned with 3-5 milk glass vases that held various blooms like antique hydrangea, lisianthus, queen annes lace, freesia, lavender, hypericum berries, garden roses, stock and baby's breath.

Thank you Melissa for your trust in me! You were a glorious and beautiful bride!

First: The Look

Second: The Dress

A wedding wouldnt be complete without the perfect dress. Gateway Bridal had just that dress. From the Claire Pettibone collection, this dress accented Pam and showed her slender figure with its dainty lace overlay and cap sleave. Third: The Cake

The cake was the epitome of Woodland Wonder. Tasha with Cake-a-Licious did an amazing job bringing whimsy into the shoot with her four-layered masterpiece, complete with adorable toadstools.

Fourth: The Venue

The Bungalow was the perfect setting for our shoot and really set the tone for the whole design scheme. Mike- the manager, was a dream to work with and brought in some unique and delicious food to accomany our set. We conveyed to him our thoughts and he executed them with ease! Yumm!!!

The Flowers

The Bouquet

I know I say this about a lot of bouquets I do but honestly I loved the way this one turned out. I used a variety of ferns, viburnum berries, ranuculus, scented geranium leaf, scabiosa pods, hydrangea and accents of feathers and fern curls. We tied off the handle with burlap and adorned it with wired twine we left long.

The Decor

We constructed a runner of various types of mosses including Spanish, reindeer, mood and moss rocks. Apothacary jars, mason jars and log candle holders were also intertwined between the green masses of moss.

The main centerpiece was made up of some of my favorite elements: sleek birch poles, chunks of natural tree trunk, fern curls, hydrangea, fern, scabiosa pods, mosses, handmade copper fern curls and the most adorable red toadstools.

Other accent pieces included deep wooden boxes which held birch curls, ferns, mosses and lotus pods.

Our bride Pam was so stunning!

She fit our earthy-beauty theme well. She wore a custom bridal crown made of copper link chain, jasmine vine and a single green ranuculus bloom. IN LOVE!

Woodland Wonder Inspiration Shoot

If you know me, then you know how much I love inspiration shoots. Like really.....love. So naturally I found it necessary to team up with Utah's greatest invitation designer, Mollie with Polka Dots and Daisies to bring you another out-of-this-world photo shoot.

Mollie and myself put are ingenious minds together to bring to you a one of a kind Woodland Wedding. A nod towards an nontraditional fall wedding with a twist of natural whimsy.

Natural Beauty

Just as design is ever evolving, so was Dani's wedding flowers. Dani knew she wanted a rustic and very natural look for her flowers. As if you were to go into the mountains, gather beautiful blooms, add some twine and bam- you have her bouquet. A great place to start. However she had no idea what flowers she wanted to make this look. This is where we came in. We started off with a palate of lavender and greens and when it was all said and done we ended with a very diverse palate of pinks, blues, lavenders and yellow. Far from where we started but when all was done it turned out to be the perfect accent to her day.

Brides bouquet was made up of two varieties of scabiosa and calcynia, billy balls, lavender, corn flower, rosemary and hanging amaranthus. Tied off with some natural jute for a touch of rustic charm. All left loose and flowing, for that hand picked look.

I loved these mothers corsages! We took burlap fabric, lined it with satin and topped it with some beautiful scabiosa pods, calcynia, and fragrant rosemary for a one-of-a-kind corsage.

Twine tied boutonnieres held a variety of billy balls, rosemary, corn flower and calcynia.

Classic White

Thursday was host to Morgan's classic black and white wedding. A traditional affair with modern touches. We set the tone of the day with this all white bouquet adorned with pearl accent lace.

Bouquet consisted of Garden Roses, Sweet Akito and Avalanche Roses, lisianthus, spray roses and mini callas.

Centerpieces were classic white hydrangea, garden roses, roses and seeded euclyptus.

First are the floral remains of what was a magazine shoot bouquet, put together for a lovely dining room table piece.

Second is an amazing peony bloom in a bouquet we did for a vendor in a wedding show.

And last but not least is an original piece ordered and designed for a special birthday.

What a beautiful Event!

Hillary and her mom were some of the greatest clients. They came into the process knowing a general idea of what they wanted but allowed me a to use my creative freedom to go wild. They trusted in my designs and in the end it made the event that much more beautiful.

Hillary's Bouquet was one of the most beautiful pieces! We used tones of the palest pinks intertwined with lush white peonies. This all was adorned with soft organza ribbon left long and to sway.

For centerpieces Hillary's mom crafted these incredible single-tier cakes, in which we adorned the stands with lush blooms. The other half of the tables were topped with candelabras which held a wreath of blooms. Pink and white ranuculus, spray roses, lisianthus and carns.

I love Alixann's photography. She is so great at details. I am all about the details.

This wedding was B-E-A-Utiful. Amanda and Rowland were married on what started off to be a cold but sunny day in April and they ended their reception with a light snow fall. Utah weather is unbelievable but sure makes for good pictures! All the beautiful images are courtesy of Camilla Photography

Amanda has the best style. Her dress was nothing like i have ever seen before. She custom designed it herself. I seriously LOVED it so much!

Her bridesmaids were the best dressed girls I have ever seen. Dont you love these dresses with the delicate lace?!

For the centerpieces we used two different types of vases. Half the tables were adorned by these tall tapered vases and the other half were small footed bowls filled with numerous full blooms.

Hello All!

I recently saw a fellow wedding vendor post a facebook comment about this same subject, so i felt it necessary to share some insight as to why the industry works this way. As you know, full payment when you book with Branches is due 3 weeks prior to your wedding date. If you've ever had a consultation with us, then you know this is one of the last things we talked about so its fresh in your mind. Until we have received a full payment retainer, we are not able to order your florals. Here is why in way of a story-

Payment

A couple years back I had a client obtain our services for her June wedding. It was a small wedding order with only a bouquet and a few boutonnieres. No biggy right? Well ordinarily you are correct. Two months after the initial consult goes by and its now 2 weeks before wedding date. I call Sally (factitious name) to inform her full payment is due in a couple days. She notifies me her fiance doesn't get paid till next week and asks if she can bring me a check then. I hesitantly oblige and wait a week to receive payment. Now by this time its a couple days before her wedding and I need to pick up her order from the wholesaler so there is ample time for flowers to open. I make the decision to go ahead and retrieve the order without payment, with high hopes of receiving the money any day. The event day comes and no payment. Since the bride opted to not have on sight delivery, her father in law came to get the florals. Me, not wanted to be confrontational, decided not to ask her in laws for the cash and instead wait till after the event to collect. One week and many phone calls later, I finally reach the groom and let him know I needed payment right away. A few days later he shows and finally brings me a check. Once again fast forward a couple weeks and I get the check back in the mail -Returned for Insufficient Funds
Long story short I never received payment and the check was void. I was left to flip the bill for not only my time but her flowers!
Can you see where this is going? If not let me spell it out.......NO money, NO flowers. By requiring that we receive full payment 3 weeks before the wedding isn't so we can rip you off and run with your money. Its financial security for us business owners that we are going to get paid for our services.
We don't work for free!

I wanted to keep this set very soft with a palate of pastels. Although we used a rustic setting, I wanted to be able to show how you can take something so rough and make it feminine and still fitting for a wedding.

Kariann Rugg is the mastermind behind these edible designs. She is the sweetest person and is great at what she does. So when Kariann contacted us a while back about donating our styling services for a shoot she was putting together, we of coarse jumped on board.

After some contemplation, we came up with a few different design ideas. Here is our first set:

Here is a close up of just how beautiful the blooms in Amanda's bouquet were. This is hardly a comparison to Camilla's image and I struggled internally on whether or not to post it but as you can see, it overtook me and alas its posted. More of this stunning event to come!

A few photos of a wedding we did a couple weeks ago. Sheridan had her event at one of my fav venues Wadley Farms. Here are the alter pieces that flanked either side of the stately mantle.

Don't these manzanita branches look electric? Just like aqua blue lightning!

These alter pieces are a great budget friendly option with a large impact. Tall and unique.

A Royal Affair

We were asked by Tessa Wolff of Salt Lake Bride and Groom Magazine to put together an inspiration board of florals that would be fitting for Kate Middleton's bouquet. This is what Branches envisioned.

This bouquet is a reflection of Ms. Middleton herself: a classic beauty. I chose a muted palette of the palest pinks, creams and touches of champagne and antique golds, and a bouquet full of lush blooms. The result is a bouquet that’s feminine with a touch of stylish flair–just like the princess-to-be.

Blooming Tuesday {Anemone}

The story behind the anemone flower’s name is a sad one. The name comes from Greek and roughly translates into “windflower”. It is said in Greek Mythology that the anemone flower sprang up from the blood of Aphrodite’s slain lover, Adonis. The name “windflower” signifies that the wind that blows the petal open will also, eventually, blow the dead petals away.

Anemone's are known for their unique black centers. They come in a variety colors, ranging from classic black and white to purple and black. These little lovelies can work for ANY type of event. Bring them in for your classic black tie event or your casual style backyard wedding.

Morgan's Bridal Bouquet

Morgan's bridals were today in this crazy, crazy weather. I hope shes able to get at least a couple outdoor photos in this blizzard.

Wish I could have gotten better photos but hopefully I can get some from Morgan's pro photog.

Bouquet consisted of White dahlias, Pink ranuculus, Yellow billy balls and white feverfew. Tied with the perfect shade of aqua ribbon with a feminine bow.

Can't wait for Morgan's DIY wedding this April!

Blooming Tuesday {Parrot Tulips}

Parrot Tulips

Parrot tulips are similar in style to other tulip varieties, in exception to one major distinguishing feature -- their frilly petals. Parrot tulips characteristically have feathery, twisted or scalloped petals which can resemble a parrots feathers- hence their name.

Parrot tulips come in a variety of colors including- pink, green, red, yellow and bi-colored. They are perfect for use in a cascading bouquet or bunched together for a bigger impact in a centerpiece.

So feminine but can be fun at the same time!

{Lady Slipper Orchid}

Cypripedium species are members of the orchid family. Referred to as Lady’s slippers, these interesting plants have only two leaves branching out from its center. The flower itself resembles a slipper or moccasin, which is what spawned its name. These dainty blooms ranging white, yellow, and deep pink to nearly purple remain tightly closed with exception to the small opening in the front.

Lady slippers may not be for every bride. They lend to a more natural and organic feel but can also be for the high end chic affair as well.

Blooming Tuesday {Muscari}

Muscari

From the hyacinth family, muscari are also know as grape hyacinth. They are named so because of their clusters of small, bell-shaped, cobalt-blue flowers that look like clusters of upside-down grapes. Color varieties include light blue, cobalt blue, white and green. Muscari can be found in late winter to early spring but hurray ladies; these beauties have short availability.

Wouldn't these be perfect for your incorporation of "something blue"? I do believe so!

When looking at this picture you might be thinking......Well, which one is the succulent?

Answer: All of them!

There are SO many varieties of succulents. Over 60 different families with 300 different genera's within those families. Succulents are thought of to be more desert plants because of their adaptation to habitats with low water sources ie: deserst. My personal opinion differs from these thoughts. I love succulents and believe they can be (and should be) used in every type of design.

Allium

Don't these blooms remind you of Horton Hears a Who? They do to me!

Allium has a globe-shaped flower head atop a long straight stem and offers a unique texture and form. Allium is a member of the onion family, but don't fret, as they only smell when first cut. Blooming in the early spring and lasting through late June, these blooms come in few varities. The range of colors is choice, from true blue, dark purple, pink, and white. Though large allium is not ideal for use in bouquet work, the drumstick allium can be the perfect addition to your wedding bouquet.

Blooming Tuesday {Blushing Brides}

We are back from vacation with some good and bad news. While on vacation my cell phone and personal belongings were stolen. Blushing Brides

A member of the Protea family, the Blushing Bride flowers in spring and produces a papery white petal, or floral leaf, that surrounds a feathery tuft of white to pinkish flower. They come in limited colors of white or pink.

It is thought that this plant received its name because of its traditional use in bridal bouquets in South Africa.

This flower has such versatility and can be used in any scheme, whether you are hosting a country chic wedding or a would like to take a more traditional approach.
I HIGHLY reccomend this unique creature!!!

Consultation Season

Sometimes the most difficult part of the planning process can be the vendor selection. Deciding on which caterer, florist or photographer can be somewhat of a difficult decision. These selections can easily be narrowed by a simple consultation with select wedding vendors. Some brides view these consultations as a chance to interview their potential vendor and others may feel like they are auditioning for the vendor! I like to think of it as a mutual interview to see if styles and personalities match. This will be the determining factor in the selection process.

To help Brides and Grooms have a better idea of what to expect in these crucial appointments, we have put together a few tips when venturing into consultations-

Keeping Time- Wedding vendors are happy to meet with you to discuss your wedding details. This meeting includes ample time to discuss the details, but please remember to consider the professional’s time. Their time is as valuable as your own. Brides should usually plan on spending an hour to hour and a half for consultations. Please remember this when setting the appointment.

Come Prepared- You want to come to the consultation prepared with any information that you feel is pertinent to your wedding. I suggest that’s brides bring any color swatches, magazine pictures or inspiration that reflects your vision and lends to your wedding scheme. Some vendors will have a small questionnaire on their site, or available via email, that will assist you with the information they need to help you make the most informed decisions.

Bring your Budget- This may be the most important factor in the consultation process. Come to the consultation with your allotted budget. Your floral vendor needs to have a figure to work with. Now, we understand that you may not always know the exact amount you alloted for flowers, but a ballpark figure will help tremendously. We need this information to maximize your floral options. We don’t want to give you a false sense of hope that your centerpieces are filled with orchids, when your budget may only allow for tulips.

Now What?– What to do after the Consultation, you ask? In most cases a signed contract and deposit will secure your wedding date with a floral designer. Many florists will create a customized proposal with varying degrees of detail and pricing information for your consideration. When you find a qualified vendor you like and trust, book ‘em! Reputable vendors will usually book dates 4-6 months in advance. You want to make sure that you book your dates quickly after the consultation to ensure their availability.
